CODE OF CONDUCT

Season 2007/2008

 

THE COACHES’ CHARTER

 

1. The Coach must respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person and treat everyone equally within the context of the sport.

2. The Coach must place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.

3. The Coach must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.

4. The Coach must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.

5. The Coach must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.

6. The Coach must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.

7. The Coach should, at the outset, clarify with the player (and, where appropriate, their parents) exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach.

8. The Coach must co-operate fully with other specialists in the best interest of the player.

9. The Coach must always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game or the use of prohibited substances and techniques.

10. The Coach must consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.

11. The Coach must ensure that his overall priority is to make learning fun and that children are progressed to their maximum potential in both individual and team skills.

 

Breaches of this Code of Conduct may be referred, in writing, to the Chairman of the Colt Division for adjudication. Where such breaches are proven and are found to bring the Club into disrepute, the Club may take action against the offender in the form of suspensions, touchline bans or dismissal from service.

 

 

THE PLAYERS CHARTER

 

The Player must ensure that they have the appropriate equipment for each occasion.

a) Clean football boots for grass

b) Training shoes for hard surfaces

c) Shin pads and socks (if not provided by the Coach)

d) A filled water bottle (if not provided by the Coach)

e) Drill tops/training suits/kit bags, etc as issued by the Coach

 

The Player should give maximum effort and strive for his best performance during a game or training session.

 

The Player must not use inappropriate language, gamesmanship or time wasting tactics. He must set a positive example for others, particularly younger players and supporters.

 

The Player must accept success and failure, victory and defeat equally. He must treat opponents with due respect at all times, irrespective of the result of the game.

 

The Player must safeguard the physical fitness of opponents, avoid violence and rough play and help injured opponents where possible.

 

The Player must accept the decision of the Match Officials without protest and show due respect towards all Match Officials and Team Officials of the opposition.

 

The Player must abide by the instructions of his Coach and Team Officials, provided they do not contradict the spirit of this code.

 

The Player must arrive for training and matches on time or notify the Coach, in advance, of any reason for not doing so.

 

The Player must show respect for the facilities and equipment that they use.

THE PARENTS CHARTER

 

The Parent must ensure that the Player has the required equipment and refreshments for each occasion.

 

The Parent must ensure that the Player arrives and is collected by the appointed times for training sessions and matches.

 

The Parent must inform the Coach, as far in advance as possible, if the Player will not be available for a training session or match.

 

The Parent must inform the Coach of any illness or ailment that may affect the performance or health of the Player.

 

The Parent should inform the Coach of any games that the Player has been asked to participate in, other than for Bedford Town.

 

The Parent must always encourage ALL players during the match regardless of the result of the game.

 

The Parent should not give instructions to the players during the match or at the half-time interval. This is the responsibility of the Coach.

 

The Parent must respect the rights of the Coach to make decisions regarding training methods, team selections, substitutions and match tactics unless they contradict the spirit of this code

 

The Parent must be courteous and polite at all times towards opponents, coaches, managers, referees and officials.

 

The Parent should feel free to approach the Coach to discuss any aspect of the Players football development.

PLAYER/PARENT/CLUB AGREEMENT

SUMMARY OF CODE OF CONDUCT

 

The Player and Parent must take responsibility to ensure that the appropriate equipment (Boots. Shin Pads/ Refreshments, etc) are provided on each occasion

 

The Player and Coach should arrive at least ten minutes before training and at least thirty minutes before the match.

 

The Player or Parent must inform the Coach well in advance if they are going to be late or absent from a training session or match

 

Everyone must show respect for the facilities and equipment that they use. Parents may be asked to assist in setting up or clearing away equipment.

 

The Player is expected to show a positive attitude and to follow directions given by the Coach.

 

The Player, Parent and Coach must be courteous and polite at all times towards team-mates, opponents, coaches, managers, referees and officials

 

The Player, Parent and Coach must not swear, spit or use name-calling or racist remarks.

 

The Player and Coach must shake hands with the opposition and thank the referee and officials, regardless of the result of the match.

 

The Player, Parent and Coach must support the team. Encouragement must be used at all times.

 

The Player, Parent and Coach must work together in a positive and constructive manner.

 

 

‘To win at all costs is not the true test of achievement. There is nothing wrong with trying to win as long as you don’t put the prize above the performance. There is no disgrace in defeat as long as you play to your best ability and give total commitment.’

This Code of Conduct defines the standards for the relationship between Players, Parents and Coaches associated with Bedford Town this season. By signing this form, you signify your understanding and agreement of the Code of conduct and your obligations when representing Bedford Town Football Club
